New Year, New Talks, New Tools for You

Happy New Year! It's only the 2nd week of January...I can still say that right?

These past few weeks have started with a bang! I've given 5 keynote presentations and workshops on a range of topics to a wide variety of audiences. Here's a quick recap.

  • Inclusive Workplace Strategies (Diversity, Equity & Inclusion) talk to a large group of housing industry executives in Scottsdale, AZ
  • Insights Discovery (Colors) workshop to a pharmaceutical team in San Diego, CA
  • The Power of Perception (Leadership, EQ & Gender) to a group of physicians in Riverside, CA
  • Gender Bias & DEI presentation to 1,000 judges in the state of New Jersey (virtual)
  • EQ and You (Emotional Intelligence) presentation to a financial technology company in Austin, TX

Speaking on these different topics not only requires me to stay current on the latest trends, literature, statistics, and strategies in these areas, but it also rejuvenates my desire to provide useful resources that help my clients and contacts.

New Tools

For the first time, I have created 3 new emotional intelligence resources that you might find helpful. These digital products are available for a one-time purchase and download via PDF. They will soon be available on my website as well. You can click below for more details on each.

The FIRST resource is an "Emotional Intelligence Team Effectiveness Questionnaire". I've been studying, teaching, and writing about EQ for more than 20 years. There are different EQ models and assessments available for individuals, but very few resources for teams. Teams high in EQ are easy to spot...and unfortunately teams low in EQ are also easy to spot.

But how do you know where your team stands without everybody taking an EQ assessment? This questionnaire includes 30 questions with simple scoring to help you calculate your team's EQ effectiveness score. Give it a try!

The SECOND resource is "100 Strategies to Improve Your Emotional Intelligence". Over the years, I have accumulated much knowledge about EQ competencies and strategies. I also currently provide 1:1 coaching for clients using their EQ reports.

This document includes 100 practical strategies across every EQ competency that you can easily apply to improve YOUR skills. If you're looking for a comprehensive list of "how" to improve, this is it!

The THIRD resource is "Behavioral Interview Questions for Emotional Intelligence Hiring". Nearly all recruiters, talent acquisition specialists, hiring managers, and HR professionals ask interview questions about required skills needed for specific jobs. But very few ask questions about skills that are difficult to train on (such as self-awareness, social skills, stress tolerance, empathy, or motivation). These are crucial EQ skills needed for most jobs.

This document includes 116 behavioral interview questions that you can use to assess EQ in any potential candidate. Use these questions as a supplement to your required job skills questions.

Taylor Swift Out of the Woods Music Video Still One of my favorite Taylor Swift songs (yes, I'm a Swifty) is called "Out of the Woods". In the chorus, she repeats the phrases "Are we out of the woods yet?" and "Are we in the clear yet?" These days, I'm asking myself these same questions when in comes to Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) topics. I provide DEI consulting to companies, teach a "Diversity & Inclusion at Work" course at UC Irvine business school, speak to dozens of companies on...

Dear friends - I chose the above image to remind you of not only a great quote by RBG, but also to vote next week! Today marks the start of Women’s History Month – a celebration of women’s contributions to history, culture, and society and has been observed annually in the month of March in the United States since 1987. Did you know that it started with a weeklong celebration in 1978 organized by a school district in Sonoma, CA? Did you know that Jimmy Carter issued the first presidential...
